Dublin, Ireland, October 26, 2004. ABB has secured a major Life Sciences contract with Janssen Pharmaceutical, Little Island, Cork, Ireland for its Industrial IT Extended Automation System 800xA. Janssen will use ABB's System 800xA to control a new Greenfield active pharmaceutical ingredient(API) manufacturing facility. The scope of supply comprises a complete 21 CFR Part 11 compliant System 800xA solution including redundant AC 800M controllers with multi product / multi train batch, full EBR, fieldbus foundation instruments, andintelligent MCC's.

The order also includes engineering services for the design, build, test, commissioning and start-up support along with validation and training support.Janssen's Pharmaceutical's new Cork manufacturing facility, based aroundABB's System 800xA, is comprised of 3 Production Modules, including Category3A containment for IPI's, Low Bio Burden API's and Aseptic DS manufacturing, along with Utilities, Tank Farm and associated HVAC. The primary focus ofthe facility is on the production of innovative medicines for hematology, psychiatry, pain management, epilepsy, gastroenterology and Alzheimer's disease.

The facility is scheduled to start up in mid 2006.ABB won this order despite immense competition and an intensive vendor selection process that ran for a period of 5 months and which included a live prototyping phase. ABB was awarded the project due to our superiortechnology and project delivery capability. This order is strategically important because it is the first large scale project using ABB's new System 800xA platform in the Life Sciences Industry.

The project also comes quickly on the back of other recent project successes for ABB in Ireland, particularly in the life sciences sector, where our strong local presence has been a major factor in the awarding of projects to ABB over our competitors.Following this initial order success for the System 800xA, ABB in Ireland has also received further inquires for MV, LV and Instrumentation solutions at Janssen.ABB ( www.abb.com ) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact.
