July 15, 2011 — Falcon Electric announced the MEGA SNMP/HTTP agent, a standalone external or an internal “circuit card” that fits into the communications option slot of any Falcon SG, SSG or FN Series rackmount and tower UPS. The agent allows for the connection to any Ethernet LAN. Two USB ports on the agent support the connection of an optional 802.11G Wi-Fi dongle providing wireless LAN connectivity.
As an alternate to 802.11G, an optional GSM/GPRS 1900 cellular modem device is available supporting wireless short message service (SMS) communications with the UPS using supplied SMS server software.
An optional NetFeeler II device supports remote temperature, humidity and water measurement. This module connects through ann RJ45 connector located on the MEGA agent. The module further supports connection of up to two additional sensors, consisting of a magnetic switch to monitor the opening of a door, as well as a smoke detector.
Operating system shutdown client software is provided with the agent supporting the remote shutdown of virtual servers running VMware. Additional remote “in-band” shutdown clients are provided for MAC OS X and prior, Windows 7 and prior, Windows Server 2008 R2 and prior, Linux and FreeBSD. Unlike comparative products from competitors, Falcon’s client shutdown software may be installed on as many computers as required without any additional licensing costs.
If security is important, the MEGA agent supports SNMPv3, HTTPS, RADIUS, SSL and Open SSL for X Windows, full MD5 password hashing and SHA data encryption modes are supported.
CE and FCC compliant, the new MEGA SNMP/HTTP agent is available now with a price of $290.00. The agent can be purchased from Falcon or through a local representative.
