MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio, Jan. 9, 2006 — Control system users who want to cost-effectively expand their communication capacity while improving overall performance have a new option from Rockwell Automation. The Allen-Bradley 1756-CN2 module and the 1756-CN2R media redundancy module each allow Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) users to double networking capacity. This additional capacity can be accomplished with fewer modules, which results in lower setup costs, conserved cabinet space and improved control system performance. “The continued trend toward capturing and leveraging data from the factory floor is resulting in an increased need for more networking capacity,” said Gordon Daily, ControlNet product marketing specialist, Rockwell Automation.
“With these new modules, we’re helping ControlLogix system users cost-effectively increase their network bandwidth and at the same time protect existing investments in control system technology.”The CN2 and CN2R are compatible with all other existing ControlNet products and can be added to existing systems, thus protecting customer investments and allowing the mix and match of ControlNet products. The 1756-CN2 and 1756-CN2R ControlNet bridge modules for ControlLogix PACs are currently available. The ControlNet network is based on the same Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) technology available in DeviceNet and EtherNet/IP networks.
These networks are a critical element in the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture, which addresses a full range of automation and information needs in manufacturing, including sequential, motion, process, drive and safety applications, and seamless information integration with the rest of the site, or the entire enterprise. Rockwell Automation (NYSE: ROK), is a leading global provider of automation, power, control, and information solutions that help manufacturers achieve a competitive advantage in their businesses.
