August 12, 2008 - Automation Control Products (ACP, Alpharetta, GA) now allows users to span a single HMI session across multiple screens, display a different session on each screen, or present a combination of the two - all from just one Thin Client. This new MultiSession module also allows ThinManager users to use a touch screen on each of the displays if required.A single ThinManager Ready Thin Client can host up to five displays, each at a different resolution and each showing a different Terminal Server session. Because ThinManager manages the Terminal Servers, the Thin Client hardware, and the Windows operating system, ACP is the only company that can offer this level of flexibility.
The new MultiMonitor module joins ACP's Share Keyboard/Mouse module which allows users to chain together multiple Thin Clients and save desktop space by using a single keyboard and mouse. With the Share Keyboard module a user simply 'slides' a mouse off the edge of one display and onto the other. The MultiMonitor module enhances this functionality, and does it all on a single client. Currently two manufacturers make Thin Clients that include five video ports, and ACP expects more manufacturers will follow suit. "The initial response to this product has been tremendous, especially among customers who want to split a single session among multiple displays," said Tim Caine, Product Manager for ACP.
ACP's ThinManager already provides the easiest method for deploying existing applications on Thin Client hardware - this new module makes the clients even more powerful by letting the user bring more value to his existing software licenses. The configuration wizards in ThinManager allow the user to easily identify the logical screen configuration, the session(s) running on each screen, the screen resolutions and how spanned sessions are displayed. The session to screen mapping can also be modified directly from the Thin Client itself. Screen Savers that come with the Thin Clients also allow a single screen to cycle through a number of HMI screens.
